SEAT are going to be putting into production a new plug-in hybrid model this year that is set to rival some of the equivalent versions including the Ford Kuga, Peugeot 3008 and the MG HS. It is called the e-hybrid and deliveries will be looking to take place in the second half of this year. The plug-in hybrid is set to only be offered in the high spec ranges that SEAT do including the FR and Xcellence trim levels.
“SEAT continues its electrified offensive as it transforms its offering to a more sustainable future, with the introduction of its third electrified model: the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID,” said Wayne Griffiths, President of SEAT. “The electrification of our large SUV takes plug-in hybrids to a new segment, shows our commitment to the technology while taking us a step closer to our aim of making electric mobility available to all.”
What can we expect from the engine?
The e-Hybrid powertrain will consort of a 1.4 litre petrol engine, an electric motor and a 13kWh battery. It is a similar set up to that you will find on vehicles such as the Volkswagen Golf GTE, Skoda Octavis and also the SEAT Cupra Formentor. It will be the most powerful powertrain available in the Tarraco range, producing 242bhp.
Some of the specifics
Recharging of the batter will take around 3.5 hours from a 3.6kW wallbox, but you can expect to travel up to 30 miles on electric power from a fully charged battery. When using the vehicle with both electric and petrol engines you will be able to get a range of 454 miles. The vehicle itself will have the lowest quoted CO2 output and the highest fuel efficiency figures for the Tarraco range, making it a huge contender against the standard petrol model. It will definitely appeal to any business users who are keen to reduce their Benefit-in-kind tax costs. You will only be able to get the Terraco e-Hybrid in a five seat option in the trim levels mentioned earlier.
As is the case with many cars in the electric vehicle market, you can use an accompanying smartphone application that can enable you to do things such as set the cabin temperature before you get in the car. The SEAT connect app will offer many online features that will make this vehicle comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Things such as the ability to remotely lock and unlock your car and send route details from your phone to your car's satellite navigation.
With the batteries stored under the boot floor, the Terraco e-Hybrid will only be available as a five seat option. It will be the only Tarraco not to offer seven seats as standard, but the boot is still a decent size and one that you would expect from an SUV.
It is exciting times for the SEAT range and the introduction of the SEAT Terraco e-Hybrid is another triumph to the SEAT range and the hybrid vehicle market.
